PREFACE AND PUBLIC AFFAIRS ACQUIRE M: THE TRUE STORY OF MAXWELL KNIGHT BY HENRY HEMMING
Trevor Dolby, Publisher of Preface Publishing / Random House in the UK, and Ben Adams, Senior Editor of Public Affairs in the US, have acquired M: The True Story of Maxwell Knight by Henry Hemming from Jonathan Conway of Jonathan Conway Literary Agency.
Maxwell Knight is seen today as one of MI5’s greatest spymasters, a man who did more than any other to break-up British fascism during the Second World War. Known to his agents and colleagues as ‘M’, Knight would later be one of the inspirations for the ‘M’ character in Ian Fleming’s James Bond novels.
M will be the first biography of Maxwell Knight in over thirty years. Henry Hemming will draw on a wealth of material that has been released by MI5 since then, as well as previously unpublished material from private family archives and his interviews with former intelligence operatives. M will reveal for the first time the names and stories of some of the men and women recruited by Knight on behalf of MI5 to infiltrate the most dangerous political organisations in Britain at that time. With the book’s publication, it will be possible at last to celebrate the lives of these courageous and selfless individuals.
M: The True Story of Maxwell Knight will be published in hardback by in August 2016.
Henry Hemming is the author of five previous works of non-fiction, including most recently Churchill’s Iceman, which was published to exceptional reviews, and was a New York Times bestseller.
