Orphans of empire by helen berry shortlisted for cundill history prize

Huge congratulations to Professor Helen Berry for being shortlisted for the prestigious 2019 Cundill History Prize for her book Orphans of Empire: The Fate of London's Foundlings (published by Oxford University Press).

The announcement was made at the Canadian Consulate in New York. The prize, administered by McGill University in Montreal, is the leading international prize for history writing. It awards US$75,000 to the winner and US$10,000 to the two runners up, making the Cundill History Prize the largest purse for a book of non-fiction.

The jurors hailed the shortlisted titles as works that “seek to illuminate contemporary dilemmas with a deeper sense of development through time.”
